Security forces are conducting a massive search and seizure operation across Kashmir's Anantnag district following the Pahalgam attack. The Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police are jointly conducting a massive operation across the district. As part of this operation, at least 175 people have been arrested so far, many of whom have been identified as suspects.
Vigilance has been stepped up, especially in remote forest and hilly areas. Cordons and search operations are being carried out in high-density forest areas, where militants are suspected to be hiding. At the same time, mobile vehicle checkpoints have also been set up to control movement on the roads, so that suspicious movement can be prevented and public safety can be ensured.
Security forces have appealed to local residents to immediately inform the nearest police station or security agencies if anyone sees any suspicious activity. The administration said that the cooperation of the general public is very important to maintain peace and public vigilance can play an effective role in combating terrorism.
The Anantnag police said that the operation is not only to track down the militants but also to eliminate their networks, shelters and facilitators. The operation is being conducted continuously based on inputs from intelligence agencies to prevent any major security disruption in the future.
The Pahalgam attack had spread panic among the general public across the region. However, the authorities are adamant that the operation will continue till the area is completely secured and peaceful. The administration has assured that a vigilant watch is being kept to ensure that innocent civilians are not harassed in any way.
Additional police and paramilitary forces are currently patrolling various villages, markets and public places in Anantnag. Security officials said that their main objective is to normalise the situation at the earliest and prevent any possibility of any terrorist activity at the earliest.
The recent development is yet another reminder of how sensitive the security situation in the Kashmir Valley remains. However, the administration is optimistic that the fight against terrorism will be stronger with the strategic actions of the joint security forces and the cooperation of the public.
