KULGAM, JULY 29:In a commendable humanitarian effort, the 34 Rashtriya Rifles (JAT) organised a free Medical and Veterinary Camp today at Gujjar Basti in the Avil area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The initiative aimed to provide essential healthcare services and veterinary care to the local Gujjar-Bakkarwal population during the summer grazing season.

Held under the directions of Commanding Officer Col S K Nehra and supervised by Major Shivaji Doke of Manzgam Camp, the camp provided free medical consultations, veterinary check-ups, and distributed essential medicines to people and livestock in the remote region.

The camp witnessed an overwhelming response from the locals, with around 600 human patients and 900 animals receiving medical attention and free medicines. The initiative also included awareness sessions to educate the community on health and hygiene practices for both humans and animals.

Local residents expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Army for their outreach. “We are thankful to 34 RR for bringing medical facilities to our doorstep. In these remote areas, such support is a big relief,” said one of the beneficiaries.

The community also appealed to the Army to continue such outreach efforts in the future, stressing the importance of regular access to healthcare in far-flung areas.
