Poonch, May 18: In a significant safety operation, the Indian Army on Sunday destroyed 42 unexploded shells in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The operation was carried out by the Army’s Bomb Disposal Squad in close coordination with local police authorities.

According to an official statement, the shells were remnants of recent cross-border shelling and were located in the border villages of Jhullas, Salotri, Dharati, and Salani. The unexploded ordnance posed a serious threat to the safety and lives of local residents.

"The operation was executed with utmost precision, strictly following standard safety protocols to ensure there was no risk to civilian life or property," the Army said.

Trained bomb disposal teams conducted the controlled detonation to safely neutralize all explosive remnants. The Army emphasized that this proactive effort underscores its commitment to protecting civilian populations and restoring normalcy in conflict-affected border areas.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects to security forces, reaffirming ongoing efforts to secure the region.
