Attari, April 29, 2025 — A total of 786 Pakistani citizens left India through the Attari-Wagah border today, just days after the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The Pakistani nationals were in India on visitor visas, mostly for religious and family purposes. After the Pahalgam attack, Indian authorities increased security checks and advised foreign visitors to return to their home countries if possible. Many of the visitors said they were leaving as a safety measure.
Officials at the border said the process was peaceful and well-managed, with additional security to ensure there were no issues. The visitors were helped by both Indian and Pakistani authorities at the border.
The Pahalgam attack, which happened last week, killed several Indian soldiers and tourists. Though investigations are still ongoing, the attack has led to tensions between India and Pakistan.
Indian officials said that all foreign nationals are welcome to visit the country, but security comes first, especially during sensitive times.
More updates on the investigation and cross-border travel are expected soon.
