KILAM, JUNE 26, 2025:
Altaf Memorial Government Degree College (AMGDC) Kilam today observed International Drug De-Addiction Day with a series of impactful awareness initiatives aimed at sensitizing students and the community about the grave dangers of drug abuse.
The event, organised by the college’s NSS Unit in collaboration with the NCORD Committee, was formally inaugurated by the Vice Principal, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Padder, who stressed the urgent need to combat the rising tide of substance abuse. In his address, Dr. Padder highlighted the harmful effects of drugs on mental health, academic performance, and social cohesion, calling upon youth to serve as ambassadors of a drug-free society.
Prof. Arif Hussain, NSS Programme Officer, delivered an engaging extempore speech, shedding light on the psychological and social toll of addiction and urging students to remain alert and informed.
A pledge ceremony was also held, with students and faculty taking a solemn vow to contribute towards a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir. Adding an interactive dimension to the campaign, a quiz competition on drug awareness was conducted. Group A, led by Sakin Farooq (6th semester), emerged as the winners among four competing teams.
The awareness programme also included a rally from the college campus to Main Chowk Kilam. Students and staff marched with placards and raised anti-drug slogans to amplify the message within the local community.
The programme was moderated by Dr. Mohd Hussain Zargar, and concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Suhail Salam Bhat, who appreciated the contributions of all stakeholders in making the event impactful.
The observance sent out a strong collective message against drug addiction, reaffirming AMGDC Kilam’s commitment to fostering a healthy, responsible, and drug-free generation.
