Kulgam, July 8: National Conference President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday slammed the Election Commission’s decision to carry out a special intensive revision of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, terming the move as “anti-Constitutional.”

Speaking to reporters in Kulgam after attending a party event, Abdullah raised concerns over the feasibility and fairness of the revision exercise. “More than 1.50 crore Biharis are working outside their state. How will they fill the form (for enrolment)? How will they vote? Where will they get the certificates for their deceased parents?” he questioned.

Dr. Abdullah said the decision would disenfranchise a large section of migrant workers and raised apprehensions about the timing and intention behind the move.

The Election Commission has announced the special revision exercise ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar, citing the need for updated and accurate voter data. However, opposition leaders and civil society groups have voiced concerns over the potential impact on voters living outside the state.
