Kulgam, June 10 – In a swift crackdown against illegal encroachments, the Revenue Department, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, successfully reclaimed approximately 15 marlas of Kahcharai (state/common) land in Turigam village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.

The retrieved land, falling under Khasra No. 776, had been illegally occupied by Mushtaq Ahmed Mir, a local resident. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Tehsildar Yaripora, Javaid Iqbal, with active assistance from Naib Tehsildar Zakir Ahmad and SHO Behibagh.

Authorities acted promptly after receiving reports of the encroachment, ensuring the land was restored to the state within 24 hours.

A senior Revenue Department official stated, “The district administration is committed to protecting state land and will continue taking strict action against encroachers. This drive is part of our ongoing efforts to reclaim illegally occupied public land.”

Local residents have welcomed the move, terming it a necessary step in safeguarding community resources.

The Kulgam administration has warned that similar anti-encroachment operations will be intensified in the coming days to prevent further misuse of government and public land.
