Pakistan has once again escalated the tension along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army has said that the Pakistani army has been firing from small arms without any provocation for 12 consecutive nights. There have been allegations of ceasefire violations again from the night of May 5 to the morning of May 6, to which India has also responded moderately.
A statement issued by the Indian Army said, “During the night of May 5-6, the Pakistani army resorted to unprovoked small arms firing from the front in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Nowshera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor sectors. The Indian Army has responded befittingly.”
Earlier, on the night of May 4-5, Pakistan had carried out similar attacks in the same areas. There have been multiple such ceasefire violations from late April to early May.
In the midst of this incident, there were high-level military talks between India and Pakistan on April 29, where India clearly warned Pakistan. But even then, such behavior by Pakistan raised questions about their goodwill.
India has already decided not to allow any Pakistani-registered or operated aircraft to use Indian airspace, including military aircraft, from April 30 to May 23. The background to this decision is India's announcement to suspend the Indus Water Treaty after the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 24.
Security forces are now under strict surveillance in the hilly and border areas of Rajouri district. The army and police are jointly conducting searches, suspicious vehicles are being stopped and searched so that no militants can hide.
These continuous ceasefire violations and terrorist activities are making the security situation in the border area more uncertain. As well as giving a strong response from the military side, India is also taking steps to increase pressure on Pakistan at the diplomatic level.
By keeping an eye on this situation, it will be understood in the future how heated the situation becomes. However, experts believe that the successive ceasefire violations are making India-Pakistan relations more difficult.
