Kulgam, June 4: A tragic incident unfolded in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday evening after a cloudburst struck the remote Nunkhull area of DK Marg in Damhal Hanjipora, resulting in the death of a woman.
According to officials, the cloudburst triggered sudden flash floods that swept through the area. A rescue operation was immediately launched by the local authorities, including police and civil administration.
Unfortunately, a 28-year-old woman identified as Jamela Akhter, wife of Munwar Badhwa—a nomadic resident currently staying in Nunkhull, originally from Mohar Reasi—was caught in the deluge and lost her life.
"A team has been deputed to the area for assessment, and further details will be shared after the on-ground review," an official said.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of nomadic communities in upper reaches as the region experiences unpredictable weather patterns.
