Kulgam, July 22: Cook-cum-helpers working in various departments across Kulgam district today held a peaceful protest, demanding implementation of minimum wages and release of their pending salaries.

Assembled at the district headquarters, the protestors raised slogans highlighting their grievances. They said they are being paid a meagre amount of just ₹30 per day, which is grossly insufficient to meet their daily needs and basic expenses.

“We have been serving in our departments with dedication, yet we are forced to work under extremely low wages. We demand that we be paid according to the minimum wage norms,” said one of the protesting workers.

They also expressed concern over the non-payment of salaries, which they claim have been pending for the last one year.

The protestors made a heartfelt appeal to the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, and local MLA to take serious note of their plight. “We urge the higher authorities to intervene immediately, ensure justice, and release our pending dues,” they said.

The protest remained peaceful and concluded with the submission of a memorandum of demands to the concerned officials.
