Kulgam, May 31: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), today chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of the PM Surya Ghar - Muft Bijli Yojana in the district. The meeting brought together key stakeholders and officers from various departments to evaluate the scheme's implementation status and devise strategies to enhance public participation.

The PM Surya Ghar - Muft Bijli Yojana aims to boost solar rooftop capacity across the country by empowering residential households to generate their own electricity. It significantly reduces monthly electricity bills through substantial government subsidies, contributing to both economic and environmental sustainability.

During the session, the Executive Engineer of KPDCL Kulgam presented a detailed PowerPoint briefing, revealing that 1,954 applications have been received under the scheme. So far, 62 solar rooftop systems have been commissioned and 77 more installations have been completed.

The chair was informed that 42 domestic consumers in the district have benefited from the scheme, receiving a total subsidy of ₹35.90 lakh to date.

DC Khan conducted a comprehensive review of the progress made in all electrical subdivisions and commended the efforts of the departments involved. He stressed the immense benefits of the initiative, including energy independence and cost savings, and urged KPDCL officials to accelerate awareness campaigns to increase uptake among residents.

Emphasizing the importance of outreach, he called for a mass awareness campaign to educate the public about the scheme’s financial incentives and its role in promoting clean energy.
