Kulgam, July 21: In a significant step to streamline vehicular movement in Kulgam town, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS) on Monday chaired a comprehensive meeting with officers from the Motor Vehicle Department, Revenue, and Municipal authorities to discuss and finalize strategies for ensuring smooth traffic flow.

The meeting witnessed detailed deliberations on key traffic management issues and focused on measures aimed at minimizing congestion and enhancing commuter convenience.

During the meeting, emphasis was laid on identifying and addressing factors contributing to traffic jams. Proposals for creating dedicated parking zones near Gantaghar and Shopian Adda, and making the Laroo bus stand fully operational, were discussed thoroughly.

The DC directed the ARTO, Traffic Police, and other concerned departments to work in close coordination and adopt a strict approach against traffic violators, who cause hardships to the general public.

In order to further ease traffic movement, the space near Polytechnic College was proposed for Sumos, while the DH Pora Adda is to be utilized as a car parking zone. The DC also stressed the need for designated pick-and-drop points for public transport in the town.

Highlighting the impact of illegal parking and encroachments, the DC instructed officers to launch a massive enforcement drive to tackle wrong parking and roadside encroachments.

Additionally, directions were issued to relocate street vendors from key junctions that face heavy traffic pressure, in a bid to ensure uninterrupted vehicular movement.

The DC urged all stakeholders to take proactive and coordinated measures to decongest town roads and improve the overall traffic scenario in Kulgam.

The meeting was attended by ACR Reyaz Ahmad Shah, ARTO, Tehsildar Kulgam, DSP Traffic, EO Kulgam, and other concerned officers from the traffic police.
