KULGAM, JUNE 12: In a significant step towards strengthening the district’s response to substance abuse, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), today visited the District Drug De-addiction Centre (DDAC) to assess its operations and interact with recovered patients.

During the visit, the DC took a detailed overview of the treatment and rehabilitation facilities available at the centre. He also engaged in meaningful interactions with recovered individuals to understand their recovery journey and the challenges they faced.

Commending the patients for their resilience and determination, DC Khan praised their decision to seek timely medical intervention. “Drug addiction is a treatable medical condition, and successful recovery is possible when individuals and their families stay motivated and seek help without hesitation,” he stated.

The DC also emphasized the need for continuous community support and encouraged recovered individuals to serve as ambassadors of change by guiding others battling addiction towards recovery resources, including the DDAC and the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital Kulgam.

During the interaction, patients expressed gratitude to the District Administration, Social Welfare Department, Health Department, and the DDAC team for their collaborative efforts in combating substance abuse. They also suggested the inclusion of recreational and wellness amenities such as a library, gym, and other supportive infrastructure to foster a more holistic recovery environment.

DC Khan appreciated the feedback and assured the patients of sustained support. He felicitated several recovered individuals in recognition of their determination and perseverance. He also directed the concerned departments to prepare and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the upgradation and facelift of the DDAC.

The visit was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Chief Medical Officer Kulgam, and officers from the Social Welfare Department, among others.
