Kulgam, June 20:In view of the upcoming holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), today visited Imam Bara Shahoo and chaired a joint meeting with officers and representatives of the Shia community to review and finalize arrangements for the observance of Muharram.
During the meeting, the DC issued a set of directions to ensure the smooth conduct of religious gatherings across the district. He emphasized uninterrupted power and water supply, especially in Shia-populated areas, and directed the PHE Department to keep water tankers available at key locations. The PDD was instructed to install gensets at designated Imam Baras to provide power backup.
To ensure availability of essentials, the FCS&CA Department was directed to stock sufficient supplies in Shia-dominated localities. The Health Department was asked to establish first aid camps and keep ambulances on standby near major religious sites.
The DC also instructed the R&B Department to carry out repairs on roads leading to Imam Baras and asked the Municipal Committees to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in and around the religious sites.
Further, ARTO and Traffic authorities were directed to implement effective traffic plans to facilitate smooth and safe movement of processions. Directions were also given for the repair and functioning of high-mast and street lights near religious sites.
Later, the DC inspected the facilities at Imam Bara Shahoo and interacted with members of the community to understand their concerns and requirements on the ground.
The meeting was attended by DDC Member Mohammad Ibrahim, ADC, ACR, ACD, CMO, ARTO, Tehsildar Pahloo, Executive Engineer Jal Shakti, and other senior officers, along with representatives of the Shia community.
