Kulgam, June 2, 2025 — In a proactive move to ensure the availability of quality goods and prevent overpricing ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, the District Administration Kulgam has ramped up market inspections across the district.
Following the directives of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, intensive inspection drives are being conducted under the supervision of Tehsildar Kulgam, Nisar Ahmad Wani, and Naib Tehsildar Kulgam, Nasir Ahmed Mantto. The checking teams include officials from the Revenue Department, Municipal Council Kulgam, Police Department, Food Department, and the Legal Metrology Department.
The teams visited various marketplaces and commercial establishments to assess pricing, availability of essential commodities, and the quality of products on sale. Special focus was placed on shops dealing in meat, poultry, bakery items, groceries, and sweets — sectors that typically witness a surge in demand during the festive period.
Several shopkeepers were warned for violations, including not displaying rate lists and charging above the prescribed prices. In some instances, fines were imposed on the spot for non-compliance with regulatory norms.
Tehsildar Kulgam emphasized that these inspection drives are aimed at protecting consumer rights and ensuring transparency and fairness in the market, especially during festivals. He urged all traders to strictly follow government-notified price lists and maintain product quality.
The District Administration reiterated its commitment to continue market monitoring in the days leading up to Eid-ul-Adha. Citizens have been encouraged to report any instances of overpricing, adulteration, or other irregularities to the authorities.
This initiative is part of the administration's broader effort to foster a consumer-friendly environment and ensure a smooth and fair festive shopping experience for all.
