In a concerted effort to steer young minds away from the menace of drug abuse, the Department of District Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Kulgam has launched a district-wide series of school-level sports tournaments aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and constructive engagement among students.

The tournaments are being held across various educational institutions, including the Girls Secondary School Kulgam, and feature competitions in cricket, volleyball, football, and athletics. Events are being conducted at the school, zonal, and district levels, offering broad participation opportunities for students.

An official from DYSS Kulgam emphasized the broader goal of the initiative: “Our objective is not just to promote sports, but also to instill discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle among students. Sports can be a powerful tool to divert youth from negative influences such as drug addiction.”

The initiative has garnered strong support from educators, parents, and community leaders, who report improved student behavior, increased participation in school activities, and a renewed spirit of community among youth.

As part of the tournaments, prize distribution ceremonies were held to recognize top-performing students, further motivating participants to excel both on and off the field.

DYSS Kulgam has pledged to expand these initiatives in partnership with schools and local authorities, reinforcing its commitment to a drug-free, healthier future for the district’s youth.
