Kulgam, June 12: To mark the World Day Against Child Labour, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kulgam, in collaboration with Islamia Saminania Higher Secondary School, organized an awareness programme today under the chairmanship of Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Chairman DLSA Kulgam.
The event focused on raising awareness about the persistent issue of child labour and educating the younger generation on the importance of child rights. Resource persons Sheikh Saqib Ansari and Labeeba Alamgir, both Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsels (LADCs), delivered insightful sessions. They discussed the multi-faceted causes of child labour and elaborated on the legal safeguards available under various laws, including the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The speakers emphasized the critical role of society in eradicating child labour and highlighted the importance of education and legal awareness in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
The programme witnessed active participation from the staff of DLSA Kulgam, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), teaching faculty, and students of the host institution. Ms. Fozia Paul, Secretary DLSA Kulgam, supervised and successfully conducted the event, ensuring meaningful engagement with all participants.
The observance served as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold the rights of children and work towards a child labour-free society.
