“Negligence during Char Dham Yatra will not be tolerated,” says DM

Srinagar, Correspondent: District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria conducted an inspection of various locations within Srinagar city on Tuesday to review the administrative arrangements. During her visit, she inspected the Gaushala located at Ganga Darshan Bend, the under-construction Animal Birth Control (ABC) Center, the Ganga Sanskriti Kendra, Alkaeshwar Ghat, the Srinagar Tehsil office, and the Char Dham Yatra Control Room.

While inspecting the Gaushala, the DM directed that the under-construction ABC center be expanded and a committee be formed as per guidelines for animal maintenance. She also instructed the Municipal Corporation to complete the procurement of necessary equipment in coordination with the Chief Veterinary Officer until the building is fully ready. She added that a veterinary doctor would be temporarily assigned by the Animal Husbandry Department to run the center.

The DM further instructed the Chief Veterinary Officer to identify the owners of stray animals with identification tags and ensure fine/penalty actions against them. She emphasized that no cows should be left on open roads, especially at the village level.

During her visit to the Tehsil office, the DM called for the maintenance of cleanliness and directed officials to prepare and submit an infrastructure development plan to the district office. She instructed the revenue staff to accelerate the recovery process from major defaulters.

At the Char Dham Yatra Control Room, she expressed displeasure over the phones being found non-functional and ordered the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to get them working immediately. She stressed that the on-duty staff should be properly trained—not just to receive calls but also to collect important field information such as rainfall data, water levels, and other regional updates from local officials and patwaris.

During the inspection of Alkaeshwar Ghat, the DM instructed the Municipal Commissioner to strengthen cleanliness measures, repair the changing rooms, improve drinking water facilities, and install CCTV cameras. She also inquired about the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the flood protection wall proposed by the Irrigation Department and recommended that the wall be strengthened further to withstand strong water currents.

After the inspection, DM Swati S. Bhadauria offered prayers at the Dhari Devi Temple and interacted with local residents to hear their grievances. Present on the occasion were Srinagar Mayor Aarti Bhandari, SDM Srinagar Nupur Verma, Executive Engineer Rajeev Garg of the Rural Works Department, Tehsildar-in-charge Deepak Bhandari, and other officials.
