June 02, Kulgam: In a major success in its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, Kulgam Police have arrested a drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of contraband from his possession in the Furrah area of Qazigund.
According to officials, a police team from Police Post Mirbazar was on routine patrol near the railway track in Furrah when they noticed a suspicious individual carrying a bag. Upon spotting the police, the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly chased down and apprehended.
During the search, the police recovered 1.19 kilograms of Poppy Straw-like contraband substance from the bag in his possession. The accused was identified as Farooq Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a resident of Zadoora.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 104/2025 at Police Station Qazigund under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is currently underway.
Kulgam Police have urged the public to cooperate and share any information related to drug-related activities in their localities. Authorities have reiterated their firm stance that those found involved in drug trafficking will face strict legal action.
This arrest is part of the police’s sustained efforts to curb the drug menace and ensure a safer, drug-free society.
