Kulgam, June 17:In a groundbreaking move towards inclusivity in sports, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Kulgam, in collaboration with Humanity Welfare Organisation Helpline and the District Administration Kulgam, organized the first-ever cricket match for visually impaired individuals in the district.

The historic event brought together specially-abled players from different parts of the Kashmir Valley, showcasing their talent, passion, and determination. The match served as a symbol of empowerment and awareness, aimed at integrating specially-abled individuals into the mainstream sporting culture.

The event was inaugurated by renowned disability rights activist and Padma Shri awardee Mr. Javid Ahmad Tak, who described the match as a platform to highlight the abilities of the visually impaired and break societal stereotypes. “This is not just a game, it’s a message — that ability is not limited by disability,” he said.

Prominent figures present at the event included Principal of HSS Bugam Manzoor Ahmad Wani, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Mushtaq Ahmed Pampori, Dr. Mohd Akbar from DYSSO, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Waqar Ahmad Giri, all of whom applauded the initiative and the remarkable zeal of the participants.

Mr. Javid Tak expressed heartfelt gratitude to the district administration, YSS officials, local educators, and media personnel for their unwavering support. He also thanked everyone who contributed directly or indirectly to the success of the event.

The match has been widely appreciated as a motivational and inclusive step, setting a precedent for similar initiatives in the future across Jammu and Kashmir.
