KULGAM, MAY 28: A free awareness and screening camp for patients suffering from cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial and cranial deformities was successfully held today at District Hospital Kulgam, bringing much-needed medical attention to affected children and their families.
The camp was organized under the supervision of Dr. AG Raina, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kulgam, in collaboration with Maaya Cleft and Craniofacial Centre Srinagar. It was led by Dr. Mohammad Shakeel, Head of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at SKIMS Medical College, Srinagar (Bemina), and supported by the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) Kulgam.
A total of 23 patients from across the district participated in the camp, receiving free medical consultations, screenings, and expert advice on further treatment options. The initiative focused on early diagnosis and timely intervention, with special emphasis on enrolling eligible patients for free corrective surgery under the IHF program.
Medical professionals conducted thorough examinations and offered counseling to patients and their families, ensuring they were informed and supported throughout the process. Dr. AG Raina highlighted the significance of early intervention in treating facial deformities and lauded the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved.
Grateful families expressed their appreciation for the initiative, noting the impact such outreach programs have in delivering vital healthcare services to underserved populations.
The camp concluded with a felicitation ceremony recognizing the contributions of the health service providers and DEIC staff, marking the event as a step forward in accessible and inclusive healthcare in the region.
