Srinagar, June 19, 2025:
Nine months after being arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA), 19 year old Zubair ul Islam Bhat of Kupwara, in north Kashmir, has shown incredible tenacity by passing the extremely difficult NEET 2025 medical entrance exam. Thousands have been inspired by the change, which has also brought attention to the value of second chances.
After being suspected of using a VPN, Bhat, a student from the village of Khumariyal in Lolab, was caught by the PSA in September of last year. Despite the fact that his phone contained no incriminating material, the authorities had started proceedings that might have resulted in extended detention.
The intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Kupwara's SSP, and Peoples Conference leader Sajjad Lone helped secure his release. On X, Mr. Lone, who became personally involved in the case, stated: "I was convinced that Zubair is special and can deliver academically and move on to have an excellent career." "Love and compassion are the keys to victory in Kashmir," he continued. Let's all celebrate Zubair's accomplishment.
Bhat intensified his studies after being released. He had previously obtained a seat at BUMS in 2023, but his ultimate goal was to earn an MBBS. He achieved a rare qualifying score in NEET 2025 as a result of his perseverance and diligent study.
Bhat told reporters, modestly, of his success, "I just wanted to serve my people." My goal is to become a doctor. In order to address the acute lack of medical facilities in his hometown, he now intends to open a hospital there. Bhat's academic success and perseverance through the PSA ordeal have made him a symbol of hope in an area that is frequently mired in legal ambiguity. His narrative highlights the human cost of preventive legislation while demonstrating how compassion and support can help someone reach their greatest potential.
Legal experts note that PSA detentions, which are permitted for a maximum of two years without trial, have generated a lot of discussion. Bhat's story serves as an example of both the dangers and the possibility of personal salvation. Bhat has emerged as a powerful representation of perseverance as he prepares for medical school.
Sajjad Lone remarked, "Zubair's life is a story." "He has recovered after falling into a deep state of despair a year ago." His accomplishment, which is being hailed throughout Kashmir and beyond, is a moving reminder that when faced with compassion and determination, hardship can occasionally lead to greatness.
