Bandipora, May 8: A severe hailstorm followed by torrential rain caused widespread damage in the Bankoot block of Bandipora district on Wednesday.The unseasonal weather wreaked havoc on standing crops,fruits and vegetables, leaving farmers and residents distressed.
According to local reports, the intensity of the hailstorm led to the complete destruction of crops,particularly affecting horticultural and vegetable produce,which serve as primary sources of livelihood for many families in the area.
Taking serious note of the situation,the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat has urged the Revenue Department to immediately assess the extent of the damage and initiate compensation and relief measures. "The people of Bankoot block have suffered significant losses.I have asked the concerned officials to take urgent steps for on-ground assessment and necessary support," the MLA said.
In addition to the agricultural losses,the drinking water supply in Lawdara and Gamroo villages of Bandipora has been severely disrupted.MLA Bhat, confirmed that he has already raised the matter with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, demanding swift action to restore water services in the affected areas.
