Handwara, June 30, 2025:

Today, Handwara Police achieved a major success in its ongoing efforts against drug smuggling and illegal substances.

During routine Naka checking at Ananwan-Kralgund crossing, police personnel observed a suspicious individual approaching from the Ananwan side, carrying a bag. Upon noticing the presence of the naka/patrolling party, the individual attempted to flee. However, the alert police party tactfully apprehended the person on the spot.

Upon preliminary questioning, the accused was identified as Basharat Rasool Rather, son of Gh. Rasool Rather, resident of Ananwan, Kralgund.

During the search of the bag carried by the accused, police recovered:

Charas-like substance wrapped in maize cover, weighing approximately 270 grams, and 10 bottles of alcohol (whiskey).

In this connection, FIR No. 32/2025 under sections 8/20 NDPS Act and 48 Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Kralgund and investigation has been taken up.

Handwara Police continues its firm stance against drug peddlers and urges the public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
