May 3, 2025 – Kulgam:
In a concerted effort to protect vital agricultural infrastructure, the Irrigation Department Kulgam, in collaboration with the Revenue Department and the Municipal Council, launched a demolition drive to remove illegal encroachments obstructing a key irrigation canal in the district.
The move came after multiple complaints from local residents about unauthorized construction of a pathway that blocked the canal, severely disrupting the water supply to nearby agricultural fields. The canal, a crucial source of irrigation for farmers in the region, had been rendered non-functional due to the blockage.
Speaking to the media, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Zamer Ahmad Rania confirmed that the illegal structures were successfully dismantled and the canal was restored to full functionality. “The locals had constructed a pathway illegally, completely blocking the irrigation canal. We have now cleared the encroachments to ensure uninterrupted water flow,” he said.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to preserving public infrastructure and warned of strict action against any future encroachments. The public has been urged to cooperate and refrain from illegal constructions that compromise essential services.
