Srinagar, 16 June—  In a significant development,  The Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society (JKCS), led by Chairman Imtiyaz Chashti, has expressed deep concern over the safety and well-being of Indian students currently stranded in Iran, with special emphasis on those hailing from Jammu & Kashmir. JKCS has formally appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, for urgent intervention and immediate evacuation of these students.

In an official communication sent to the Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs, JKCS highlighted the growing anxiety among families due to the ongoing unstable and tense situation in Iran. Many students from Jammu & Kashmir are pursuing medical and technical education across various Iranian cities, and the deteriorating circumstances have put their safety at serious risk.

Chairman Imtiyaz Chashti reiterated the organization’s faith in the Government of India’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad. The Ministry’s past efforts in evacuating Indians during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukraine crisis, and the recent Bangladesh evacuation have been widely appreciated.

“We urge the Government to act swiftly once again to ensure the safe return of our students. Their timely evacuation will bring immense relief to the families,” said Chairman Chashti.

JKCS continues to maintain close contact with concerned families and stands ready to assist the authorities in any necessary coordination.
