Srinagar, May 10, 2025 —
The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced financial help of ₹10 lakh for each family that lost a loved one due to recent shelling from across the Pakistan border.
The firing affected areas like Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu, and Baramulla, following India’s strikes on terrorist camps earlier this week. The violence claimed the lives of at least 20 people, including civilians and a senior district officer.
One of the victims, Raj Kumar Thapa, who served as the Additional District Development Commissioner in Rajouri, died after a shell hit his home.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. He said that although no amount of money can replace those who died, the government wants to stand by the grieving families and offer some support during this difficult time.
He also visited relief camps where displaced families have taken shelter, speaking with people and checking on food, medical care, and other basic needs. Officials have been told to make sure no one is left without help.
The administration has assured that it is closely watching the situation at the border and will continue to provide all necessary aid and protection to residents.
This move reflects the government’s effort to support people who are suffering due to the ongoing tension at the border.
