Kulgam Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers, Seize Nearly 7 Kg Poppy Straw

Kulgam, July 19: In a major success in its ongoing anti-drug drive, Kulgam Police arrested two drug peddlers and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband from their possession on Friday.


Acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Station Kulgam established a checkpoint at Chancer village. During checking, a truck bearing registration number JK19-4106 was intercepted with two individuals on board. A thorough search led to the recovery of 6.785 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance from their possession.


The accused have been identified as Mohd Sahil, son of Irshad Ahmad Wani, resident of Seri, Ramban (driver), and Majid Ahmad Malik, son of Rafiq Ahmad Malik, resident of Tazipora, Mohammadpora, Kulgam. Both were immediately taken into custody and shifted to Police Station Kulgam. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.


In this regard, a case under FIR No. 76/2025 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
