Kulgam, July 09: In its continued drive against drug trafficking, Kulgam Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered a large quantity of contraband from his possession during routine checking.
A police team from Police Station Kulgam, while conducting naka checking at Arreh, intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05B-4138. Upon search, the police recovered 5.6 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance packed in a bag. The accused, identified as Waseem Ahmad Dar, son of Habibullah Dar and resident of Shadab Krewah, Shopian, was immediately taken into custody. The motorcycle used in the transportation of the contraband was also seized.
Following the recovery, an FIR No. 72/2025 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act (Section 8/15) has been registered at Police Station Kulgam. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the contraband and expose the broader network involved in the illegal trade.
Kulgam Police reaffirmed their unwavering resolve to root out the drug menace from the district and urged the general public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. “Community cooperation is key to building a drug-free and secure society,” a police spokesperson said.
