Kulgam Police, Civil Administration Launch Drive Against Illegal Poppy Cultivation

Kulgam, May 30, 2025: In a continued effort to combat drug-related activities, Kulgam Police, in collaboration with the civil administration, launched a special drive against illegal poppy cultivation in the Kund area of Kulgam district.

Joint teams comprising police personnel, revenue officials, and excise department staff carried out the operation at Waltengo and Nowbugh Kund. The intensive drive resulted in the destruction of vast tracts of illegally cultivated poppy across two separate locations.

In connection with the operation, E-FIR Nos. 03 and 04 have been registered under FIR Nos. 17 and 18/2025 at Police Station Kund. The cases fall under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are currently underway.

The local population has welcomed the action, commending the police for taking a firm stand against the drug menace. Many residents have urged authorities to extend the drive to nearby areas as well.

Kulgam Police has once again appealed to the general public to cooperate and support ongoing efforts to eradicate drug abuse and safeguard the community, particularly the youth, from the dangers of narcotics.
