Kulgam, May 29: In a decisive action against drug trafficking, Kulgam Police have arrested a female drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of contraband substances from her possession.
According to officials, a police party from Police Station Qaimoh had established a checkpoint at Sofigund when they noticed a woman attempting to flee the area. The alert personnel acted swiftly and apprehended her.
During the search, police recovered 07 grams of brown sugar, 2 kilograms of poppy straw, and ₹10,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the sale of narcotics. The arrested individual has been identified as Sameena Khatoon, wife of Manto Hussain, a resident of Malda, Calcutta, presently residing in Sofigund.
A case under FIR No. 37/2025 has been registered at Police Station Qaimoh under sections 8/15-21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.
Kulgam Police reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the district and urged the general public to come forward with any information related to drug peddling or abuse, assuring full confidentiality and cooperation.
