Kulgam, May 22, 2025:

In a determined effort to curb the menace of drug abuse and illicit narcotic cultivation, District Police Kulgam, in collaboration with officers from the Revenue Department, launched a special poppy destruction drive in the district today.

The operation, spearheaded by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Kund, targeted areas in and around Village Oriel Kund. During the drive, illegal poppy cultivation spread across approximately three kanals of land was identified and destroyed by the joint enforcement team.

A formal case has been registered under FIR No. 15/2025 under Section 8/18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Kund. The investigation is currently underway.

Kulgam Police has reiterated its warning to individuals involved in the cultivation of poppy or other narcotic substances to destroy such crops voluntarily. Failure to comply will invite stringent legal action. Authorities affirmed that such drives will continue with increased intensity in the coming days to uproot drug-related activities from the district.

The public has been urged to support the initiative by cooperating with law enforcement agencies and reporting any suspicious or anti-social activities in their vicinity.
