Kupwara Police Arrests Drug Peddler; Narcotics Recovered

Kupwara, July 2, 2025:


Today, a special Naka was established by Kupwara Police at Lolab Bypass Road to check suspicious movements and curb illegal activities in the area.During naka checking, one person coming from Kupwara towards Lolab exhibited suspicious behavior and attempted to flee upon noticing the police presence. However, the naka party acted swiftly and apprehended the individual tactfully on the spot.Upon his personal search, heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. During preliminary questioning, the accused disclosed his identity as Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, resident of Gulgam, Kupwara.


In this regard, a case FIR No. 197/2025 under sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kupwara, and further investigation has been initiated.


Following the disclosure  of the accused, Curewell bottles containing codeine-based syrup were also recovered. Further investigation is underway, and more arrests and recoveries are expected.Kupwara Police remains committed to eradicating the menace of drugs from society and continues to seek public cooperation in identifying and reporting drug peddlers and other unlawful activities
