Kulgam, May 28:Members of the Labour Association Kulgam staged a peaceful protest on Wednesday, calling on the administration to release pending construction materials for developmental works completed during the 2023-24 financial year.
The protestors, gathered in front of the Block Development Office, said they had completed multiple government-assigned projects, but the delay in providing essential construction materials was impacting their work and threatening their livelihoods.
"We have fulfilled our part of the commitment by completing the assigned works. Now it's the government's responsibility to release the materials as promised," said one protestor.
The association has made a direct appeal to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, the Chief Minister, and the Deputy Commissioner of Kulgam, urging immediate action to address the issue.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Kulgam acknowledged the problem, stating that the delay in material distribution is not confined to Kulgam but is part of a Union Territory-wide issue. “We are aware of the situation, and efforts are being made at the higher level to resolve it soon,” the BDO said.
