Katra, June 9: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today inaugurated a state-of-the-art “CCTV Surveillance System with Integrated Command & Control Centre” for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, aimed at ensuring enhanced safety, security, and a seamless pilgrimage experience for devotees.
Terming it a milestone in pilgrimage management, the LG said, “This cutting-edge technology will enable real-time monitoring, efficient crowd management, and ensure a hassle-free pilgrimage.” He added that the AI-powered surveillance ecosystem will provide actionable insights, enabling prompt emergency response and optimized operational coordination.
The new infrastructure includes one Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC) in Katra and seven Sub-Control Centres along the pilgrimage route, offering 24x7 monitoring of critical zones. Over 700 CCTV cameras — including 170 new high-definition IP cameras — have been installed, covering entry/exit points, gathering spots, and the entire yatra track.
Advanced features such as facial recognition, gesture detection, ANPR, intrusion alerts, and crowd density analytics have also been deployed. Shri Anshul Garg, CEO of SMVDSB, highlighted the system’s capability to issue real-time alerts for congestion, landslides, or emergencies.
The LG also reviewed operations and called for regular staff training and coordination with security forces. Recently, the Shrine Board enhanced security with high-end equipment like baggage scanners and vehicle inspection tools, following last year’s joint security review.
Senior officials including Dr. Ashok Bhan, Shri Bhim Sen Tuti (IGP Jammu), and Ms. Nidhi Malik (DC Reasi) were present at the event.
