KULGAM, JULY 25:
Acting on the directions of the Secretary to Government, Commissioner Transport J&K, and the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, the Motor Vehicles Department conducted a mega traffic enforcement drive across Kulgam district to curb violations and enhance road safety.
During the drive, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kulgam, Dr. Showkat Ahmad Bhat, informed that the department has seized nearly 30 vehicles found operating without valid documents. Furthermore, 170 challans were issued and a total fine of ₹1.75 lakh was realized. The department also suspended 12 driving licences for serious violations of traffic norms.
Dr. Bhat highlighted that such strict enforcement is crucial in tackling the rising number of road accidents in the district. He announced that the department will now be conducting weekly drives to maintain strict compliance with traffic regulations.
In a stern message to the public, Dr. Bhat warned against underage driving, calling it a dangerous and legally punishable offence. “Allowing minors to operate vehicles can lead to three years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹25,000 as per the law,” he cautioned.
The Transport Department reaffirmed its commitment to strict enforcement and appealed to the public to cooperate by following all traffic rules for the safety and wellbeing of all road users.
