Srinagar:
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent religious and political leader of Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi, a respected Islamic scholar and former vice-chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband.
In a statement issued on Monday, Mirwaiz said he was saddened to hear about Maulana Vastanvi’s death and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and followers. He praised the late scholar for his contribution to Islamic education and social welfare, calling him a guiding light for many.
“Maulana Vastanvi was known for his knowledge, simplicity, and dedication to the community. His work in the field of education and religious guidance has left a lasting impact,” Mirwaiz said.
He added that the Muslim world has lost a sincere scholar whose efforts toward reform and progress will always be remembered. Mirwaiz also prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear the loss.
Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi was widely respected across India for his modern approach to religious education and leadership. His death is being mourned by scholars, students, and religious leaders from various parts of the country.
Special prayers are being held in several mosques and institutions in his memory.
