Doda, J&K — The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has announced a temporary halt to mobile internet services on 37 telecom towers in Bhaderwah, Doda district, lasting until May 27, 2025. This decision comes in light of security concerns flagged by law enforcement agencies.
The suspension took effect at 8 PM on May 22, following a directive from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Jammu Zone, in accordance with the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024. This action has been officially sanctioned through Government Order No: Home-12(TSTS) of 2025, signed by Principal Secretary Chandraker Bharti.
Officials have indicated that the shutdown affects all mobile data services—2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G—as well as public Wi-Fi. Authorities have pointed to a credible threat of misuse by anti-national elements that could disrupt public peace and order during this sensitive time.
"In the interest of national integrity, public safety, and state security, this decision was both urgent and necessary," the Home Department explained. The pressing nature of the situation allowed for the bypassing of prior approval from higher authorities, as outlined in the Telecommunication Act, 2023.
All telecom and internet service providers have been instructed to fully adhere to the suspension order.
Authorities are urging the public to cooperate, stressing that such measures are only implemented in exceptional circumstances to protect lives and maintain order.
