Kupwara, July 30:
A tragic accident occurred near Behnipora Bus Stop in Rajwar when a passenger bus carrying over 45 passengers — most of them students — overturned while traveling from Sarmarg to Handwara. According to reports, the accident took place after the driver lost control of the vehicle while crossing Behnipora Rajwar near the bus stop.
Irshad Ahmad Lone lost his life in the mishap and was declared brought dead at CHC Zachaldara. Over 40 persons sustained injuries. Among them, 19 injured — mostly students — were received at Community Health Centre (CHC) Zachaldara, while the rest were shifted to GMC Handwara for further treatment.
Rescue operations were promptly launched by the J&K Police, 21 RR Handwara, and local residents, who jointly assisted in evacuating the injured.
Senior officials, including Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ms. Ayushi Sudan, CMO Kupwara Masrat Iqbal,SSP Handwara Mushtaq Choudhary, ASP Handwara Fayaz Geelani, ADC Handwara Javid Masoodi, officials from Police Post Zachaldara, and Naib Tehsildar Zachaldara, visited the spot to assess the situation.
As per local reports, the bus was carrying more than 45+ passengers at the time of the accident.
