Poonch, July 30, 2025 —
In a significant blow to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, Indian Army troops launched a high-stakes counter-terror operation — Operation ShivShakti — in the Poonch sector during the early hours of Tuesday, July 30.
Based on credible intelligence inputs obtained through coordinated efforts between military, civil intelligence units, and Jammu & Kashmir Police, security forces moved swiftly to intercept suspected terrorist movement along the Line of Control (LoC).
Coordinated ambushes were laid along likely infiltration routes, leading to a fierce gunfight in the early morning hours. In the ensuing exchange of fire, two terrorists were neutralised. Security forces also recovered a substantial cache of war-like stores from the encounter site, averting potential threats to civilian lives and infrastructure.
The recovered items include:
Two assault rifles with ammunition
One pistol with ammunition
Hand grenades
Two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
Communication equipment
Medicines and logistic supplies
The nature and volume of the recovered materials suggest the terrorists were equipped for a prolonged engagement.
Officials said the successful operation underscored the Indian Army's preparedness and operational synergy with other security agencies. “The swift and surgical response by our troops ensured zero collateral damage and demonstrated our continued commitment to safeguarding peace in the region,” a senior Army official stated.
Operation ShivShakti is seen as a major setback to terrorist groups attempting to infiltrate and destabilize the region. Search operations continue in the surrounding areas to ensure the complete elimination of any remaining threats.
Authorities reiterated their resolve to thwart any attempts by hostile elements to disturb peace in Jammu & Kashmir.
