PHE Employee Among Two Narrowly Escapes as Borewell Sinks in Qazigund Village

Qazigund, Kulgam, May 16: Panic gripped Mandhole village in Qazigund on Friday afternoon after a borewell suddenly sank into the ground, narrowly missing two individuals — one of them a Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department employee.

According to locals, the borewell, which had reportedly been in a dilapidated condition for weeks, collapsed just moments after the two individuals moved away from the spot. “It could have been a tragedy. They were lucky to escape,” said a resident.

Villagers expressed concern over the lack of timely intervention, blaming the authorities for ignoring repeated warnings about the borewell’s condition. “We had informed the officials multiple times, but no action was taken,” another resident said.

The incident has sparked demands for immediate inspection and safety measures for similar structures in the area.

In response, an official from the administration assured that a team will be dispatched to assess the situation. “There is no need to panic. We are sending a team to inspect the site and evaluate the cause of the collapse,” he stated.

Residents, however, are urging swift action to prevent any future mishaps.
