Assesses Night-Time Medical Services, Staff Availability
SRINAGAR, July 24: In a strong show of commitment to public service and healthcare accountability, the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, conducted a surprise midnight inspection of the Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital (JVC), Bemina. The visit aimed to assess the quality of medical services being delivered during night hours and to check the availability of doctors and paramedical staff on duty.
The Minister went ward to ward, well past midnight, personally inspecting the functioning of emergency services, maternity care units, general wards, and overall hospital cleanliness. She meticulously reviewed the availability of doctors, nursing staff, medical supplies, and emergency response mechanisms.
During her visit, the Minister interacted with several patients and their attendants, listened to their concerns, and received feedback and suggestions on the quality of services. She expressed gratitude to the staff working late hours but stressed the critical importance of maintaining accountability around the clock.
While checking the duty rosters, the Minister issued strict instructions to ensure that doctors and paramedical staff are available as per scheduled shifts. “Healthcare is not a 9-to-5 service,” she remarked. “Hospitals must be fully functional and responsive 24/7, especially during night hours when patients are most vulnerable.”
She also underscored the need for patient-centric care at all times and called for a stronger emphasis on cleanliness, prompt response, and staff accountability in public health institutions.
The public and hospital attendees present during the inspection lauded Minister Itoo for her unexpected late-night visit, appreciating her proactive approach and visible commitment to improving the healthcare infrastructure in the region.
