KULGAM, JULY 27:Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo today visited Zangalpora village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district to assess the developmental needs of the area and engage with the local populace to hear their grievances and concerns.
Addressing a large gathering of residents, the Minister reaffirmed the Omar Abdullah-led government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive, transparent, and people-centric governance. She emphasized that the government is focused on ensuring equitable development and timely delivery of essential services at the grassroots level.
During the visit, Sakeena Itoo listened patiently to the issues raised by locals and assured that all genuine concerns would be addressed promptly through the concerned departments. She announced that a flood protection project worth Rs. 4 crore has already been sanctioned to safeguard the village from future flood risks. She also informed the residents that instructions have been issued for the development of a playfield in the village to promote youth engagement in sports and recreation.
The villagers brought several developmental concerns to the Minister's attention, including the need for a Primary Health Centre, improved drinking water supply through either a dedicated filtration plant or extension of supply from a nearby facility, and the upgradation of infrastructure at the local Government High School. They also sought the recruitment of staff in essential departments and the establishment of an Animal Husbandry Centre to support the agrarian and livestock-based livelihoods in the area.
Highlighting the importance of youth engagement, the Minister distributed sports kits among local players and encouraged young people to actively participate in sporting and physical activities, stressing that sports play a key role in shaping a healthy and progressive society.
The visit reflected the government's determination to bridge developmental gaps in rural areas and empower youth through targeted initiatives that foster community growth and well-being.
