Kulgam, July 23: In a significant step towards curbing the growing menace of drug abuse among youth, the District Police Kulgam on Tuesday organized an awareness programme under the banner of “Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan” at L/NK Shri Nazir Ahmad Wani Government Boys Model Higher Secondary School, Kulgam.
Held under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2024-25, the event aimed to educate students about the harmful consequences of substance abuse and promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles.
The programme witnessed participation from senior officers of Kulgam Police, including Additional SP Kulgam Shri Aftab Awan (JKPS) and DySP DAR Kulgam Shri Mohd Ayoub Rather, along with school staff, students, and other community members.
Speaking at the event, the officers highlighted the urgent need to safeguard the younger generation from the devastating effects of drug addiction. They underlined the role of awareness in combating drug abuse and encouraged students to act as ambassadors of a drug-free society.
A debate competition was also organized during the programme, providing students with a platform to share their insights, ideas, and solutions to the complex issue of substance abuse. The participants passionately spoke about the societal threat posed by drug addiction and the collective responsibility needed to eliminate it.
The initiative reflects Kulgam Police’s firm commitment to building a safer and healthier community. Students and staff expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the police in spreading awareness and fostering trust among the youth.
To recognize and encourage young voices, the first three winners of the debate competition were felicitated with mementos and cash prizes at the conclusion of the event.
