Handwara June 05:
Prominent social and political activist Javid Mir from Rajwar, Handwara in North Kashmir has made a fervent appeal to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the Honourable Chief Minister to ensure the immediate release of all pending payments to government contractors before the upcoming Eid celebrations.
In his statement, Mir highlighted the financial distress faced by hundreds of contractors across the Union Territory due to the long-pending dues.
He emphasized that many families depend on these payments for their livelihood and that withholding them ahead of a major religious festival like Eid would cause immense hardship to workers and their families.
“Eid is a time of joy and community. Delaying the payments will not only ruin the festive spirit for thousands of families but also raise serious questions about the administration’s sensitivity towards the working class,” Mir stated.
He urged the administration to take urgent steps to clear all work-related and infrastructure project dues without further delay, ensuring that the contractors and daily wage earners are able to celebrate the festival with dignity and peace.
Javid Mir, known for his grassroots activism, warned that if the payments are not released before Eid, there could be protests and resentment among the contractor community, which may affect ongoing developmental works in the region.
