Sopore, June 12, 2025:
In its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, Sopore Police have booked a chronic drug peddler under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS) and lodged him in Kishtwar Jail.
The accused, Farooq Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Rasheed Mir, resident of Adipora Sopore, had been persistently involved in narcotics trafficking despite multiple FIRs and arrests. His continued activities posed a serious threat to public health and youth safety.
Following detailed dossier preparation and sanction by the competent authority, the accused was detained under PIT NDPS Act provisions aimed at incapacitating repeat offenders and curbing the local drug supply chain.
This decisive action is part of Sopore Police’s unwavering commitment to dismantling the drug ecosystem and protecting the future of youth. Sopore Police continues to adopt a multi-pronged approach—preventive detention, strict enforcement, and public engagement—to ensure a drug-free Sopore.
Let this serve as a clear warning to others involved in drug peddling: no matter how long you’ve evaded the law, we are watching, and action will be swift and unforgiving.
Sopore Police urges the public to continue extending support and share any information that can help root out this menace from Sopore.
