Kulgam, July 17, 2025: Intensifying its ongoing crackdown against drug peddlers, Kulgam Police on Thursday arrested a major drug dealer and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances during a targeted raid in Frisal area of the district.

Acting on specific and credible input regarding illegal hoarding of narcotics, a special police team led by Incharge Police Post Frisal, along with the Executive Magistrate Frisal, raided the residential house of Wakeel Ahmad Dar, son of Maroof Ahmad Dar, resident of Peerbal Mohalla, Frisal (Yaripora). During the search, 5.145 kg of grinded cannabis and 1.735 kg of poppy straw were recovered from the premises.

The accused, believed to be a key figure in the local drug network, was arrested on the spot. A case under FIR No. 45/2025 has been registered at Police Station Yaripora under relevant sections of the NDPS Act (8/15, 20), and further investigation is underway.

Kulgam Police reaffirmed its commitment to rooting out the drug menace from society and urged community members to support the initiative by reporting suspicious activities in their localities. “We are dedicated to eliminating this threat and ensuring a safer future for our youth,” a police spokesperson said.
