Kulgam, May 21: The Transporters Association of Laroo Kulgam held a peaceful protest today at the Laroo bus stand, raising serious concerns over buses from Anantnag bypassing their stand and dropping passengers directly at the Old Bus Stand in Kulgam.
Protesters said this ongoing practice is having a direct negative impact on the Laroo bus stand, severely affecting their daily income and livelihoods.
“We are struggling to make ends meet. School fees, household expenses—everything is becoming unmanageable. Many of us have loans that we can no longer repay,” said one protestor while speaking to reporters.
The transporters collectively appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam and the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kulgam to intervene and ensure that all transport operators follow the designated routes.
Speaking to the media, ARTO Kulgam assured the drivers that their concerns are being taken seriously. “A meeting with all stakeholders will be held within the week to address the issue. We are committed to resolving this matter fairly and promptly,” he stated.
The protesters urged the authorities to take swift and effective action to restore fair operational practices and protect their economic well-being.
