Two women were injured on Sunday after being attacked by a wild bear in the Adapora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The victims were initially rushed to a nearby medical facility and later shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for specialized treatment.
Officials from the Wildlife Department told that a search operation has been launched in the area to locate and trap the bear.
“Our teams reached the spot shortly after the incident was reported. We have deployed personnel in and around the area and are using traps to ensure the animal is captured safely,” a department official said.
“We urge locals not to venture into forested areas or wander alone in the vicinity until the bear is located. The safety of residents is our top priority,” the official added.
Residents of the area have expressed concern over the increasing movement of wild animals near human settlements, calling for more proactive safety measures.
The Wildlife Department said it is working closely with local authorities to prevent further incidents.
