Behibagh, Kulgam | June 30:
A massive walnut tree came crashing down on a two-story residential house in the Behibagh area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday evening, causing major structural damage.
The house belongs to Ghulam Nabi Shah, a local resident. According to witnesses, the tree—likely weakened due to recent rains and strong winds—fell suddenly, damaging the rooftop and the entire upper floor of the building. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
Early Monday morning, Tehsildar Kulgam, accompanied by officials from the Revenue Department and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), visited the site to assess the situation. A detailed damage report is expected to be submitted soon to facilitate necessary relief and compensation.
Meanwhile, local residents have appealed to the district administration to provide immediate assistance to the affected family and expedite the compensation and rehabilitation process.
